Construction

The Talaria 55 Jet is constructed using Hinckley's DualGuard Composite Construction and the patented SCRIMP process. Hinckley's DualGuard Composite Construction has a skin coat of chopped E-Glass mat in low-shrink vinylester resin, an outer skin of Kevlar/E-glass, a core of aircraft-grade balsa and high-density foam, and an inner skin of carbon. The chopped E-Glass and vinylester resin provide a superior surface finish and a greater resistance to water osmosis. Dupont's Kevlar/E-Glass fabric greatly increases the strength of the hull against damage caused by impacts. The core of aircraft-grade balsa provides the greatest degree of stiffness and thermal/acoustic insulation possible. The inner skin of carbon is used for its superior stiffness and strength-to-weight ratios.

In hull/deck connecting flange, jet grates, and all through-hull fittings, the core is eliminated and the hull is reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass. A reinforcement stringer system of carbon is inserted into the hull and the completed laminate--the hull and stringer system--is then SCRIMPed. The patented SCRIMP process--an advanced, closed-molding, resin-infused technique--uses a strong vacuum to saturate or infuse the 'sandwich' with vinylester resin in a single step. Marelon ball-valve type seacocks are then installed flush with the hull. The hull shell is supported by a combination of foam-cored FRP stiffeners and structural bulkheads. The stiffeners are laminated into the primary hull structure.

The deck consists of a molded cabin house, pilothouse, side decks, and cockpit. All parts are constructed with materials similar to those in the hull with the exception that there is not any carbon fiber or Kevlar.  In way of through-bolted hardware and deck fittings, the skin thickness is increased and the core is replaced by higher density core or deleted altogether, according to the nature of the load. The boat's interior bulkheads as well as its own internal stiffeners support the deck.The walking surfaces of the deck and cabintop have a non-skid pattern molded into the laminate. All exposed surfaces are finished with gelcoat.

The Opacmare hydraulic swim platform is customized with a passerelle underneath that extends the platform port and starboard.

Flybridge is a molded core combination of high density core and Corecell core fiberglass unit, which is through-bolted to the pilothouse top. The flybridge hard top is molded fiberglass and all electronics antennas are mounted on top, supported by aluminum framework.

Topsides are Awlgripped with Red Mahogany (reapplied in 2015 with clear coating), Deck assembly is Light Cream gelcoat, Double Boot Top is Cream, and black bottom paint.

Accommodations

Sea Smoke sleeps four in spacious accommodations below. Aft of anchor locker in master stateroom is a built-in cherry desk and chair with television on an electric lift, lockers and shelving, seating and cedar-lined hanging lockers, port and starboard, all made of cherry. Centerline and walk-around queen berth (6'6" long) with cedar-lined stowage underneath and reading lights. To port is a private ensuite head with separate stall shower. 

Next aft through door to starboard is custom wine locker and large hanging locker with central vac system. Also to starboard is guest stateroom with two single berths (6'4" long) with drawers below, hanging locker, and mounted television. To port is guest head with shower.

Galley is in aft cabin to port, featuring a Liebhur full refrigerator, Corian counter with built-in knife rack, double stainless steel sinks, Kenyon 3-burner cooktop (1 burner on inverter circuit), microwave convection oven mounted above, a large below-counter freezer, and electric trash compactor. Many raised panel drawers and lockers above and below counter, with custom dish storage outboard with drain.

The entire cabin is built in satin-finished cherry with gloss highlights, varnished teak and tulipwood sole covered with soundproofing, carpet, and laminate sole in heads for ease of cleaning.  Galley and head counters are Corian. Air-conditioning controls are in each room.The cabin headroom is 6'7". Five cabintop hatches with shades and screens provide light and ventilation

In the companionway the teak stairs offer storage below and lead to a spacious combination pilothouse/main salon with the electrical panel to starboard, a railing to port.

The main salon offers 360º views through large windows and doors. The aft doors are polished stainless steel framed, full-height, curved, with tinted tempered glass. The windshield is 3 fixed windows (heated), all with wipers and washers. Port and starboard forward side windows are custom electric opening tempered glass with screens. The remaining side windows are fixed. Hunter-Douglass manual window treatments throughout salon with snap-on covers for windshield.

The cherry helm area is forward to starboard featuring built-in electronics and gauges, instruments, and varnished steering wheel.  JetStick and engine controls outboard. A Stidd helmsman chair with Ultraleather cushions on an electrically controlled pedestal. The cushioned companion seat is fixed.  Below helm seating are drawers and a custom liquor locker.

Across from helm to port is cabinetry housing the entertainment center with a Bose Lifestyle surround sound system, locker for beverage glasses, and storage. Outboard is a television in the cabinetry on an electric lift. Next aft are mirrored port and starboard settees with Ultraleather covered cushions. Port and starboard tables combine to make one large (lowered they make into 2 berths).  Lockers outboard and underneath. Salon sole is varnished teak and tulipwood with carpet and covers. Salon headroom is 6'7".

Dockside entry to the cockpit can be from either side or through the transom. In the forward cockpit are the entry steps into the salon and the custom angled stairs to the flybridge. There is an L-stern seat with burgundy Ultraleather cushions, a cockpit shower with hot & cold mixing valve with wand near transom door, and a fresh water deck wash hose on electric reel. Two Glendinning powered shore cord reels mounted at transom with wireless remotes. A lazarette through a large cockpit hatch holds custom shelving for organization, the 21.5kw Onan generator, and an ice maker.

The custom steps to the flybridge are molded-in nonskid fiberglass treads with stainless steel railings. The molded 3-sided flybridge has sides that curve downward and a molded non-skid sole. A custom isinglass enclosure comes with the boat. Helm is to starboard with two Stidd helmsman seats, followed by an L-shaped Ultraleather cushioned settee and varnished table. To port forward is large locker in dash, a settee and available table. Cushions are burgundy.The hardtop features 4 skylights and all antennas, horns, radars are mounted on top.
